Northampton & Lamport Railway, Saturday 20th April 2013

After a slightly delayed start due to a minor electrical fault, 58 participants enjoyed an extremely comprehensive exploration of the infrastructure of the Northampton & Lamport Railway behind ex-BR Class 31 31289 "Phoenix".

Passengers were carried in ex-BR Mark II 5132 and Guards Van 951805. Starting at Pitsford and Brampton platform 3, our charter proceeded out via the loop towards the end of the line at Bridge 14, stopping short of stock temporarily relocated to create space elsewhere for our charter. After a double reversal, we completed the Down siding in full including a "buffer kiss". Proceeding to Pitsford Sidings, we entered the yard and completed the headshunt to "end of line", taking time for a photo stop in this unusual location, before covering No 2 Siding as far as stored vehicles.

With special arrangements in place, participants were then able to view part of the extension project as our train proceeded over Bridge 11 towards Boughton, with the signal box at the crossing visible beyond the front of the train. Returning to Pitsford and Brampton platform 2, our train terminated having completed the entrance to the station loop and an estimated distance of 3m and 24c. Many members took the opportunity to enjoy a "station limits" cab ride in RH319286 0-4-0DM (1953) "Sir Giles Isham".
